Boulevard de Belleville - Paris, France
Photo: ©2011 Matthew Rose Note: The beige box on the pole is a monitor for blind people who are crossing the
Boulevard de Belleville. There is some kind of chip, I guess, that sets it off and a verbal
clock is set in motion to explain to the blind person about the crossing. (Matthew Rose)

Perhaps there is some inference to the public at large being blind to art and in need of our assistance - which is yet another subtext to this project's concept. (Gary A. Bibb)

someone did. (Michael Clowers)

Public art (indeed, all art) is about the interaction between the artist
and the audience; the studio and the community. (Gary A. Bibb)

Installation with "Junker Garden Car" by Farmlab. This car has been
here since 2008, and has seen a couple of incarnations. It was
originally installed by Farmlab (Lauren Bon), and contained ferns.
It seemed a fitting gesture to reiterate the concept of "public artists",
since public art is what dominates Bon's work. (Leora Lutz)

Installed below "Self Portrait" by Vincent van Gogh.
As part of its 125th anniversary celebration, the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA)
initiated Inside/Out, which takes life-size high resolution digital reproductions of art
from its collection to the streets. The project aims to connect with audiences outside
the museum walls, treating metro Detroit as a grand, open-air gallery.
Note: This van Gogh self portrait is the first painting by the artist to enter a USA
museum collection (1922). Furthermore, the Detroit Institute of Arts is a
Fine Art museum and not associated with any of the widely known art schools.
